On Sunday the whole family went off to Wimbledon Common for a lovely long walk. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed the fresh air. Massimo was awake some of the time and we think he enjoyed the view. At one point we got him out of the buggy for a good look around as you can see in the picture. (Thank you Mr and Mrs Pope for the outfit.) Horace found what was probably a rabbit hole and spent a good ten minutes making the hole bigger before sitting down for a well-deserved rest!
Massimo was weighed on Tuesday and with the news from the ENT surgeon I forgot to let you all know. He now weighs 5.71 kgs (12 lbs 9 oz) and is taking 850 mls of milk per day (of which 500 mls is breast milk and the rest is SMA Gold).
On Tuesday we also met a new respite care nurse who will be starting next week and coming to look after Massimo for 6 hours a day twice a week, which will give me a chance to do those things that are impossible to do with Massimo, like going to the gym, tidying up around the house, doing washing unimpeded, going for a float in a flotation chamber (I’ve never done this and thank you Paul for the gift I will let you all know if it is as good as it sounds!). She will also probably do a night a week too, which will mean that we get three nights and two days respite care a week. I fear that we will not know what to do with ourselves!
We have heard from the ENT team and Massimo is going for an MRI scan on Tuesday morning. We are due to go to Freddie Hewitt Ward at 7.30 am and we are booked in to stay the night. From what we understand they will be giving him a general anaesthetic for the scan, but I’m not sure why considering they only sedated him last time. I don’t understand why we are booked in to stay the night, either, but if they are concerned and want to keep an eye on him I won’t argue.
From what the ENT surgeon has said, the news about the warts not being papillomatosis but being Rhabdomyoma is not good news. How and why this should be so we are not sure of yet. At the moment we are just speculating so until we have more accurate information we will refrain from sharing our fears. I suspect that once we have the results of the scan we will have a discussion with the surgeon and have a much clearer picture of what is going on. Until then we are just enjoying being a family again.
