Massimo is finally home again although we did have a couple of ups and downs first, of course!
Since Tuesday, he has been on Pinckney Ward in SGH and he has had a nurse to look after him, and only him, the whole time he has been there. This has really helped Justin and I as we have been able to leave him with a clear conscience and a happy heart. In the meantime we have caught up on as much sleep as we could! Massimo’s antibiotics were supposed to be for 10 days and therefore should have continued until today, however yesterday they decided to stop the course – I suspect they did a blood test and found the infection had gone, but I’m not sure. So whilst I was at the rehearsal for Lisa and Phil’s wedding the ward called to tell us we could go and pick him up! I did mention that we were a tad tied up and that we could go and get him at around 6 pm as we had a wedding party (I am matron of honour) lunch.
After a very nice lunch and a good chinwag with all and sundry we picked up my shoes for the wedding and made our way home. When we got home we were told that Massimo’s bloods had shown that he was a little anaemic and that he would need a blood transfusion and would probably stay in hospital for the weekend. I have to admit that I ranted for quite some time when I heard the news. We got to the hospital shortly after and spent a little while with the little man until he fell asleep. The nurse in charge told us that she had been told the blood was ready for transfusion and that she would collect it and start it immediately. The blood is given over 4 hours and we could pick him up either at around midnight or the following morning. We chose the following morning, but knowing that shifts start and end at 8 we said we would collect him as near to 8 am as possible so that they didn’t need another extra nurse for the following day.
Max was home by 9 am this morning and has spent a lovely day at home, mostly asleeep!
